MCA 15th Annual Conference
The Midwest Cogeneration Association held its 15th annual non-utility conference on September 25th at McDonald’s Lodge in Oakbrook. The theme of this year’s conference was Cogeneration/ Distributed Generation: “Where Does It Fit In The Evolving Energy Market.”
Attendance at this year’s conference was in excess of 120 people. An expectedly lower number than last year given the state of this year’s current events. Everyone agreed that both the quality of speakers and the subject matter were excellent.
David Kolaz of the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency gave the keynote address; the subject was Illinois’ Emerging Energy Policy. We also want to thank Mr. Tom Kerr of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. He was the special guest speaker who gave a very good talk about how positive the present administration in Washington is with regards to the promotion of CHP/ Cogeneration.
As usual, the many people who took part in preparing the conference did a remarkable job selecting their speakers and the subject matter. We also want to thank the many exhibitors, not only for participating in the conference, but also for their continuing support throughout the year.
Bud Wulff and Gary Ephraim, both members of the board, presented the awards for the projects of the year. First place went to the Tinedale Farm cogen project by Ag Environmental Solutions, with Charles Equipment Company being the principal supplier. Second place went to the University of Illinois Chicago Circle campus with Stanley consultants as the principal engineer and third place went to Presbyterian homes in Evanston, Illinois with LaSalle Associates as the turnkey engineer and developer.
And last, but not least, we want to applaud David Miller for his usual good job on the wrap-up session closing the conference.
