| Profile: Elgin Community College |
Elgin Community College located in Elgin, Illinois is in the process of installing a cogeneration system. KJWW Engineering of Rock Island, Illinois designed the co-generation system for the college using (4) 770 kw generators. Morse Electric of Rockford, Illinois is the installing contractor.
Charles Equipment Company, the local Waukesha distributor, is providing the total equipment package for the new power plant. The selected generators are (4) Waukesha Model VHP5200GL Enginators which can be operated continuously at 800 kw using 130°F intercooler water. The Enginators can be operated intermittently at 835 kw. This additional available power provides increased system flexibility. Other system components include Maxim TRP steam generators, Amercool radiators, Fisher controls and Redco switchgear.
The new plant will operate during Edison's (CECo) peak energy period which is 9 am to 10 pm, Monday through Friday. It is expected to be on line and fully operational by the last quarter of 1996.
